Name Mariela J. CampoAbout [Please click arrow @ TOP LEFT CORNER of this page for pix of selected projects] .:Bio from the HGTV.ca web.site:. Mariela is excited to have taken the plunge from public relations into the world of interior design. Seeking a creative career, Mariela moved to New York City to attend Parsons School of Design. There she earned a degree in Interior Design, including courses in set design, art history and a summer spent in Paris, studying French architecture and interiors. Upon graduation, Mariela accepted a Design Assistant position in NYC at The Learning Channel. There she worked with Doug Wilson of Trading Spaces on his new design show, Moving Up. She was delighted to begin her design career this way, setting her on a busy path of set styling for TV shows in NYC and Toronto ever since. In addition to her work in TV, Mariela continues to build an interior design clientele in Toronto and New York. An authentic "people person," she thrives on interacting with clients and industry professionals and draws upon her PR skills when working on projects. Apart from her home city of Toronto, Mariela has lived in Montréal, Paris, Barcelona, Los Angeles and New York City. She is fluent in Spanish and French. Her experience living abroad and her travels to Asia have been the greatest inspiration to her design philosophy. Mariela's favourite design aesthetics range from modern to post-modern, often fused with exotic elements. She also has a soft spot for the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, as well as a love for contrasting raw industrial materials with soft, glamorous fabrics and finishes. Her keen interest in sustainable and green design began during her schooling years at Parsons, where she was inspired to take industrial objects [such as shipping containers and rooftop water tanks] and recycle them, converting them into useful and beautiful objects for everyday use. Please visit her Green Design Girl blog at www.greendesigngirl.com for news of green and sustainable design products and projects. Most recently, Mariela was very pleased to have made it as one of 10 finalists, chosen from hundreds of applicants, to appear in HGTV's popular Designer Superstar Challenge. She was also proud to be the sole designer from Toronto. The series aired to 5.6 million HGTV Canada subscribed viewers and was presented three times, with numerous repeats, throughout the winter, spring and summer of 2007. Mariela is interested in hearing about further on-camera design opportunities. Please feel free to inquire via e.mail about screen caps from Designer Superstar Challenge and her new demo reel, which is in the works for 2008.
